Marvin Williams | Manager of Intergovernmental Relations
Marvin Williams was appointed Manager of Intergovernmental Relations for the Illinois Department of Corrections in 2024. Marvin began his career with Ohio AMS, LLC, a SCRAM provider, assisting courts in electronic monitoring. He then joined the Office of Inspector General for the Chicago Board of Education, where he assisted in complex investigations in the Sexual Allegations Unit.
In 2020, Marvin joined the Illinois Department of Natural Resources as a Legislative Liaison, where he collaboratively managed a robust legislative portfolio that included public land, water rights, hunting, and boating. In 2022, Marvin joined the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) as the Assistant Chief of Intergovernmental Relations, where he led trauma-informed initiatives. Highlights of his work with IDJJ included passing legislation that allowed the Department to hire credible messengers, extend services for youth on Aftercare, and ban solitary confinement in juvenile detention centers statewide.
In 2023, he joined UCAN Chicago as the Director of Government Affairs, building relationships between the organization and elected officials at all levels and negotiating government funding for youth programming.
Marvin attended Baldwin Wallace University, majoring in Political Science and triple minoring in Political Communications, International Affairs, and Legal Studies. He obtained his master's in legal studies from Pepperdine University School of Law. He is also the former Black Caucus Director for the Illinois Young Democrats.
