Marcus Hardy | Executive Assistant to the Director

Marcus Hardy was named executive assistant to the director on January 16, 2017. In his position, his responsibilities include overseeing the Office of Performance Based Standards, Inmate Issues, Statewide Dietary and the Operations Center.

A veteran of the Illinois Department of Corrections, Hardy began his career as a correctional officer at Pontiac Correctional Center in October 1994. He worked as a correctional officer in a variety of positions that included institutional trainer, statewide screener and recruiter for IDOC. He also was certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

In April 2006, he was named assistant warden of programs at Logan Correctional Center. In November 2006, Hardy developed and introduced IDOC's first Reentry Summit that provides offenders with essential components for successful community reentry, which includes access to resources such as housing, education, employment, family reunification and substance abuse services, while still incarcerated and prior to release. In April 2007, Hardy was named assistant warden of programs at Pontiac Correctional Center. During his time there, he expanded the Parole School Program as well as secured additional space for therapeutic groups.

​​​​​​In October 2009, Hardy was named assistant warden of operations at Stateville Correctional Center. In December 2009, he was named warden of Stateville Correctional Center and the Northern Reception and Classification Center. While serving as warden, he made adjustments to procure additional space for the institution's law library. In January 2013, Hardy was named warden of Sheridan Correctional Center, the state's largest drug treatment facility and model drug prison and reentry program. During his tenure as warden, an additional 98 substance abuse treatment beds were added.

In 2014, he was named deputy director of the Central District for IDOC, where he oversaw operations of all adult correctional centers and adult transition centers within the Central Region as well as the Central District Reception and Classification Center. He became acting deputy chief of Operations in March 2016 and appointed deputy chief of Operations in September 2016. In his most recent position, he was responsible for overseeing operations for the agency's adult correctional centers and adult transition centers.

Hardy received an Associate of Arts Degree from Lincoln College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from Illinois State University.​​​​​​​​
