Angela Locke | Deputy Director Region 2

Angela Locke was named Deputy Director of Region 2 at the Illinois Department of Corrections in April 2022. Locke oversees the operations of the adult correctional centers, adult transition centers and the Reception and Classification Center in the region. Prior to her recent appointment as Deputy Director, she served as the Warden of Vandalia Correctional Center.

In January 1999, Locke joined the Illinois Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer Trainee. Since then, she has risen through the ranks as a Correctional Officer, Lieutenant, Shift Supervisor and Warden. Her firm yet supportive leadership style challenges her staff in a positive manner to perform to the best of their abilities. She has served on several teams including the Statewide Overtime Review/Security Team. In this role, Locke provided sound recommendations and solutions that reduced overtime, developed plans to improve staff efficiency, and served as an advisor to all 27 Illinois prisons. While being detailed to this team, she gained invaluable knowledge and experiences in staffing, budgeting and roster management as it relates to diverse facilities and multi-level offender populations.

Prior to her tenure with Illinois Department of Corrections, Locke served as Staff Sergeant with the Illinois Air National Guard – 183rd Fighter Wing, and was Crew Chief during the armament of F-16 fighter aircraft.

Locke earned her bachelor’s degree from Millikin University.
